TOGETHER WITH

Rugby on Display - By The Rugby Collective

Huge thanks to @The Rugby Collective for partnering with us. They run a free weekly podcast on all things rugby which is an informative and entertaining listen - follow the podcast on Spotify and let us know what you think. They even wrote us a piece about South Africa’s Eben Etzebeth, who will be coming up against Scotland in Marseille. Enjoy:

Eben Etzebeth is the epitome of what it means to be a South African Lock. At 6 foot 8, and around 120kgs, he sits on the size chart nicely in-between an average man and a small mythical giant.

For me, Springbok forwards should be aggressive, resilient, aggressive, strong, and probably aggressive… if I haven’t mentioned that already. But they also need to be tactically sound.

Not only does Eben bring the brawn, he also brings the brains. You only need to look back to his quick thinking in identifying the Harlequin’s caterpillar ruck was missing a bind, which saw him grab the ball and it lead to a score…

I would encourage you to keep an eye out for Eben, but you cannot miss him… he’s massive!

Check out their Twitter/X also for regular updates and coverage of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Best Place to Stay in Marseille

The Old “Vieux” Port - As the saying goes, “You are only young once, but you can stay immature indefinitely”. The Old Port offers a vibrant nightlife accommodating all age groups. Whether you are trying to split the “G” with your friends whilst discussing who would win in a fight, Eddie Jones or a Kangaroo, or trying to set up your stubbornly single friend with a stranger at the bar, you'll have a great time here. Looking for a good opener?Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?” Thank me later :)

Matches will be hosted at the Stade de Marseille (Orange Velodrome on Google Maps) which is only 20 minutes away from The Old Port. A stark contrast to Lyon and Nice.

Best Breakfast & Coffee in Marseille

Deïa Coffee - Rue Saint-Saëns

  • No reservations but plenty of your staples when it comes to brunch. Located just off of the port, stroll in here for some wholesomeness and reliable breakfast items with your friends.

Santa Gusto - Rue Saint-Thomé

What to know: A sandwich shop pumping A-grade focaccia with high-quality ingredients. Very reasonably priced and there will be no better meal to whip out a World Cup match than a selection such as the one below. Just look at them.

What to get: Parma ham and sour cream or ask for a selection of the top sellers

Other recommendation

Pain Pan! - A new feature to the bakery scene in Marseille, and one not to be missed. Reviews for the pain au chocolat are only being described as “the best I’ve ever had”.
