Rugby on Display
It will be the first outing for Steve Borthwick at his inaugural World Cup, aspiring to emulate fond memories of a 2003 World Cup victory for England. They face Japan in Nice, a side that shocked the rugby community with a win against South Africa in their opener at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Other teams on display in Nice include Wales, Portugal, Italy, Uruguay, Scotland, and Tonga. Fixtures can be found here.

Best Place to Stay in Nice
Vieux - Old Nice - If you recall from our Lyon post, the best place to stay was also called “Vieux”. Translating to “old” and located beside the Quartier du Port, where you’ll see a litany of superyachts, the area is paved with cobblestones and hosts a daily market. Vieux personifies the French Riviera and is a only stone’s throw away from the beachfront.
Matches will be hosted at the Stade de Nice/Allianz Riviera, approximately 1 hour via the tram or 35 minutes by taxi depending upon traffic.

Best Breakfast & Coffee in Nice
Edmond Cafe - Rue du Congrès
What to know: Quintessential brunch spot offering everything from American pancakes with bacon and eggs followed by croque monsieur. Whilst you’re trying to wrestle your toddler into their high chair, keep the rest of the family entertained with their vast selection of cakes.
What to get: American Pancakes & cookies if they have any left.

Déli Bo - Bd Joseph Garnier,
What to know: To all the Americans traveling to France to watch some real sport, none of this wearing armored body suits on a football pitch mullarkey, Déli Bo should give you your New York bagel fix. Offering an array of savory bagels and thick club sandwiches, you can aid the digestive process by immersing yourself in their selection of pastries. See below for proof.
What to get: Club sandwich & ask the staff for a selection of the best pastries. When you return the next day to fill up another box to wolf down at your next World Cup match, send me a thank you email.

Other recommendations
Boulangerie La Niçoise - This bakery should have “Soakage” incorporated into its name as they are producing freshly made baguettes filled to the brim for just a couple of euros. Lunchtime can be manic so get here early.
Marinette - This place is a must-visit during your trip. An all-rounder in terms of breakfast and coffee, accompanied by their selection of baked goods. They are also at the daily market, they won’t be hard to find, just look for the biggest queue.
