Current URC Standings

  • Connacht has started their season strong, particularly without their big names in Finlay Bealham, Bundee Aki and Mack Hansen.

  • Watching Connacht play in the Sportsgrounds in Galway is something else. My fingernails quiver in fear when I watch Connacht play, as they know they’re in for a rough 80 minutes.

  • Forever supporting a team that can have you in awe one minute and tears the next make for a very tumultuous season ahead.

  • Nonetheless, we started out with a win over Ospreys at home, the highlights of which are at your fingertips below

Best Area to Stay in Galway & the Stadium

  • This area is just south of Galway City Centre.

  • Accommodation is more reasonable than staying smack bang in the city centre and you are close to many of the pub and food recommendations below.

  • Not to mention the picturesque mornings you get like the below:

  • The exact location is linked above but the stadium is only a 15-minute walk from Eyre Square / the city centre.

  • The grounds are shared with a greyhound racing track so don’t be alarmed when you see the sand surrounding the pitch.

  • In terms of pubs to go to before, there are a whole host of exemplary spots en route to the stadium and within walking distance. A very welcoming thought after returning from the RWC in France.

Best Breakfast & Coffee in Galway for Before and After the Match

Dela - Dominick Street

  • Not surprised to see that Tom Daly also recommends this place for the morning of your match.

  • An incredible brunch offering and the queue outside is a testament to this so arrive early.

  • Great coffee here and they also serve some beers if you want to have the best start to your day possible.

Ard Bia - Spanish Arch

  • Another stalwart when it comes to Galway restaurants and a place you can also rely on when it comes to your morning feed.

  • Anywhere that changes its menu daily is a place that is consistently thinking on its feet and innovating with new dishes.

Other recommendations

  • An Púcán - If you’re looking for a simple fry-up, washed down with a few pints afterward, this is a great spot near the Sportsgrounds.

  • Espresso 44 - Award-winning coffee shop that you would probably miss walking down Shop Street, only for that fact I am telling you about it here. One not to miss.
