Fast Facts about Leicester to Know for Your Matchday
Leicester Market is the largest covered outdoor market in Europe.
In 1948, a local butcher decided to sell hand-sliced potato crisps in Leicester which attracted people in droves. His name was Henry Walker, the founder of Walker’s crisps. Impressive fact.
David Attenborough, Gary Lineker and Peter Shilton all have one thing in common. You guessed it, they descend from Leicester.
Leicester’s original kit colours were a black jersey and white shorts. The origination of the Tigers name derives from when the kit colours featured chocolate and orange stripes, reminiscent of a tiger’s.

Current Premiership Standings

Leicester are currently unbeaten in the Champion’s Cup. The same can’t be said for the Premiership. They must be sick of winning the Premiership, with a record 11 titles to their name to date.
The side are not short of World Cup winners also with Handre Pollard, who can’t seem to miss a kick, and Jasper Wiese who is probably one of the most terrifying ball-carriers in the Premiership. You also have the old dogs in Mike Brown, Dan Cole and Ben Youngs.
Players to keep an eye on the day include Dan Kelly, Freddie Steward and Ollie Hassell-Collins.
Ahead of this week’s match against Bath, you can find last week’s highlights below:
Best Area to Stay in Leicester & the Stadium
One the UK’s oldest cities, where King Richard III was found buried under a car park in 2012.
The city centre has everything you could possibly need. Plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants right at your fingertips. That walk home after a nightlong session wont be as painful if you’re staying in this area.
You can occupy yourself on the days before the match with visits to the National Space Centre or the King Richard III Visitor Centre.

Sale Sharks could learn a thing or two about stadium placement from Leicester Tigers.
Tickets range from £35 to £75. A bit on the steeper side but you cannot argue with the talent on display and the club’s history to justify the price.
If you are coming from Leicester Market, it only takes a matter of 20 minutes to walk to the stadium. By my calculations, that is 2 cans worth of “bitter” or 4 bottles of Stella in drinking time. A taxi would be approximately a 5 minute journey dependent upon traffic. Just walk.

Best Breakfast & Coffee in Leicester for Before and After the Match
La Maison - Abbey Street
Home to Leicester’s breakfast and brunch den putting their spins on classic and savoury dishes.
People absolutely rave about this place. Particular call outs for their french toast and full English breakfast.
I cant help but think eating at a place called La Maison that I would be in for a french fine dining experience but the team here are doing anything but. Very wholesome food to make you feel at home (hence “la maison”)
James’ Cafe Bistro - Bond Street
Awarded Bistro of The Year at the Food Awards in 2023.
Another spot that is very popular with locals due to the quality of food on offer and the variety these guys put on display.
People appear to be drawn to the generous portions, reasonable prices with delicious menu items. Pull up a table with you and your friends and get those fry ups in to you.
Other recommendations
6 Degrees - A specialty coffee house driven by its benevolent support of the Open Hand Trust to help support those in need. You can’t help but get behind the cause, especially when they are slinging out some of the best coffee in Leicester. If you fancy some gelato after, head to Bru to get your fix.
Is your destination not covered?
Heading on a stag, hen or venturing on an away day? You probably encounter the following:
Your friends leave everything until last minute.
They rely on one person to pick what the entire group is doing and where you are going.
If a place is rubbish, your friends turn to you and never let you forget that woefully bad place you took them.
Well, look no further. If you want an itinerary that is based on prior groups’ memorable experiences and local recommendations, just reply to this email and get in touch.
