Paris - From opening to final night

World Cup Series - Paris

The Stade de France in Saint-Denis, will play host to the opening night of the 2023 World Cup, all the way up to quarters, semi’s and the final (with an inevitable win for Ireland for the first time in its history).

The opening match between France and New Zealand should prove to be a truly mouth-watering affair. New Zealand has grasped victory in 48 out of the prior 62 meetings between the two teams but, the French flair, home advantage and the thumping sound of La Marseillaise, France have every opportunity to make the opening night as riveting as the final.

Fixtures can be found here and filtered for each team of your preference. In terms of group stages, we can expect to see the following teams battle it out for a quarter-final spot in Paris. A subtle reminder of current world rankings is placed beside each time, truly illustrating the caliber of rugby that will be on display in Paris:

  • Ireland (No. 1)

  • France (No. 2)

  • New Zealand (No. 3)

  • South Africa (No. 4)

  • Australia (No. 7)

  • Scotland (No. 10)

  • Georgia (No. 11)

Equally as mouth-watering as the array of rugby talent on display is the food and entertainment scene. Many would classify it as the “City of Love” but we prefer to refer to it as the realm of booze, baguettes and beef tartare.

Best Area to Stay in Paris

The stadium is located on the north side of Paris in Saint-Denis so you can board the RER train from the city centre to the La Plaine - Stade de France stop. It takes roughly 30 minutes to come from central Paris.

We recommend staying in Republique if you can as it is also north of the city centre and very close to many of our food and entertainment recommendations below.

Best Bakeries & Coffee in Paris

LIBERTÉ - Porte Saint Martin

What to know: Located just a street away from Canal Saint Martin, LIBERTÉ offers you the chance to try some of Paris’s finest baking affair whilst taking in the picturesque views of the canal. Offering a modern array of croissants, pain au chocolat and exceptional chocolate babka, this local recommendation should allow you to kick start your morning just right.

What to get: Chocolate Babka & Cream Puff

LIBERTÉ

Boulangerie Utopie - Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud

What to know: Minutes away from Republique Metro station, this old-school artisanal (fancy word for goods made by hand or the traditional way) bakery is exactly what you think of when it comes to a Parisian Boulangerie. Fun fact, in France you can only call yourself a “Boulangerie” where the breads and pastries are made on site so you know you are in for a solid experience anywhere you see the title. This place is very reasonable and offers the most authentic French baked goods you will get your hands on. We’d recommend getting there early as it is big with the locals.

What to get: Baguette & Almond Croissant

Other recommendations

  • Tout Autour du Pain - Classic French bakery, tends to get busy around lunch time and wildly popular with locals. Great for high-quality sandwiches to grab on the go.

  • Fringe Coffee - High-quality coffee to get those caffeine endorphins pumping or to give you that get-up-and-go after a hard night on the beer.
